To LEED or not to LEED

For the past two years Melissa and I have been contemplating having our house LEED certified.  As with many things in this house, the issue is cost versus benefit.  It will cost us approximately $2000 to have the house certified, yet it will currently add no appreciable market value to the project.

On the flip side, this would give us the opportunity to "prove" we accomplished something significant here rather than just saying we did.  Being familiar with the LEED requirements checklist, I confident this house could easily make gold, and perhaps platinum.  Knowing this, I feel like doing the LEED paperwork is just a formality.  It makes me feel like I am "purchasing" the certificate.  Melissa believes it will give the entire project credibility.  I am inclined to agree, but it will still cost $2000.

So, what do you think? Do we spend the money for the certification or not?

We Choose To LEED

We have engaged with Steven Winter Associates on 6/9/08 to have our house LEED certified. We know our house will perform. This will be one of the ways we prove it. We have not yet discussed the level of certification we will be shooting for.
