Unavoidable Setbacks

I was going to avoid writing about this, but after much contemplation, I came to the conclusion that I should. I feel it important for everyone to understand that every building project has its unavoidable problems and setbacks, and this project is no different.

We can not control the weather, and when our four modules were waiting to be set upon the foundation, torrential rain soaked them. For the most part the interiors remained dry, due to the shrink wrapping done by the factory, but a few leaks occurred in, of course, the worst possible locations. (Why is it that water never leaks into a tub or sink?) The water caused some unfortunate damage to the oak staircase and kitchen cabinets.

Our woodwork was crafted to perfection by skilled finish carpenters. It had tight joints and marvelous detail. It - was - beautiful. It was heart wrenching to see it soaked with water. In the days that followed, the hot humid weather (not to mention a few more days of rain) took its toll on the staircase. The joints separated, the boards warped, and various colors of mold quickly began to grow. The entire staircase was ruined, and the kitchen cabinets sustained minor damage.

The modular factory has promised to make it as good or better than new so we are hopeful.
