The 2010 Northeast Sustainable Energy Association - NESEA - Open House is Saturday, October 2nd, 2010. We are one of nearly 400 residences and buildings in the Northeast that will be opening its doors to the public. Our house will be open from 11:00AM-4:30PM. You will be able to see our geothermal system, solar hot water, and energy recovery ventilator in action. Our house is located at 100 Perry Street in Douglas, MA. I will be here to answer questions and hope to see you here.

standing column geothermal
Could you comment on your design specs and experience with geothermal? I am particularly interested in standing column systems. I wasn't able to get to your place for the NESEA tour, but did see some very interesting places in eastern NY and western MA. Thanks.
My Experience with Geo and SCW
I was amazed, and decidedly dissappointed, that only 2 people visited during the NESEA open house. I wasn't expecting a lot, but 2! It was a waste of a perfectly good Saturday on my end.
In regards to your request... To date, my experience with the standing column wells, and geo exchange in general, has been very positive. With the rocky soil, and all the granite just beneath the surface in many New England locations, the SCW has to make more sense than trenches.
At some point I hope to measure the energy usage for these units, but the equipment to do so just has not been a priority. My feeling is the operating cost is low.
